Summary
This article tells you how to move an entire MachPanel installation from an existing server to a different Machine.
Applies To
MachPanel all versions
Solution
We are considering a scenario where MachPanel Control Server along with its SQL Database is installed on a single machine.
The process to move MachPanel installation from one server to a different server is as under:
Step 1-A: Update Existing installation Of MachPanel to latest build. Lets assume the panel has been updated to latest build.
Step 1-B: Take Database Backup (Existing MS SQL Server where MachPanel Database Exists)
- Click Start >> Programs >> Microsoft SQL Server >> SQL Server Management Studio Express.
- MS SQL Management studio window will open up asking for Login and Password, login as Windows Authenticated User or SA.
- After login navigate to: Computer name (SQLServer) >> Databases >> MachPanel_Db.
- Right click on MachPanel_Db and click Back Up under Tasks and take full backup of your database on disk, for example on C:\.
- Name the backup file as per current control panel version (like: MachPanel_Db-Backup-6422HF1.BAK)
Step 1-C: Take Backup of MachPanel Installation files (Existing Server where MachPanel Web Server Exists)
- Open My Computer / Computer, go to "C:\Program Files\MachSol\MachPanel Control Server"
- Copy all files (Press CTRL+A and CTRL+C or Right Click on selected files and hit "Copy").
- Paste Files to new folder on a secure location. Name it "MachPanel Control Server - v.6.4.22 HF1"
Step 2: Install and Update MachPanel Control Server on new machine.
Update newly installed control server to same version as existing deployment or to the version for which you have backup of database and/or files.
Step 3: Restore Database on new MS SQL server
- Move to 4 if you are already inside SQL Server Management Studio Express.
- Click Start >> Programs >> Microsoft SQL Server >> SQL Server Management Studio Express.
- MS SQL Management studio window will open up asking for Login and Password, login as Windows Authenticated User or SA.
- Right click MachPanel_Db from Databases and click on Tasks >> Restore >> Database.
- Select the Backup file, that was created in Step 1-B and complete restore.
Step 4: Fix Database User.
Not normally needed, but run following SP in MS SQL query analyzer for MachPanel_Db.
EXEC sp_change_users_login 'Auto_Fix', 'MachPanel_Db'
Syntax for this SP is: EXEC sp_change_users_login 'Auto_Fix', 'user'
Important Note: Once all above steps are completed,
you should verify and confirm that your control panel is active and working on the new machine. The old machine can be shutdown and decommissioned to avoid any confusions.
Please ensure to set up regular backups for database on this new server.
