Remove Error 404 When Accessing Control Panel on Fresh Installation


Summary

This article explains the steps, How To to install ASP.NET Framework on Windows Server and enable it in IIS. These steps are required when you face problem in running web interface for MachPanel and get 404 error.

Solution

To run MachPanel web interface, you have to install the ASP.NET, .NET Framework 2.0 and enable it in Internet Information Services (IIS).

When you use the Configure Your Server Wizard or the Add or Remove Programs dialog box to install ASP.NET on a server running Windows Server 2003, ASP.NET is automatically enabled in IIS Manager.

However, if you install ASP.NET from a Web download or as part of an application such as Microsoft® Visual Studio®.NET, you must enable ASP.NET manually, as described later in this section.Insert section body here.

Case1: To enable ASP.NET on a server running Windows Server 2003 by using the Configure Your Server wizard

  1. Click Start, and then click Manage Your Server.
  2. In the Manage Your Server window, click Add or remove a role.
  3. In the Configure Your Server wizard, click Next.
  4. In the Server Role dialog box, click Application Server (IIS, ASP.NET) and then click Next.
  5. In the Application Server Options dialog box, select the Enable ASP.NET check box.
  6. Click Next, and then click Next again.
  7. If you are prompted to do so, insert your Windows Server 2003 installation CD in the CD-ROM drive, and then click Next.
  8. When the installation is complete, click Finish.


Case2:To enable ASP.NET on a server running Windows Server 2003 by using Add or Remove Programs

  1. In Control Panel, click Add or Remove Programs.
  2. Click Add/Remove Windows Components.
  3. In the Components box in the Windows Components Wizard, select the Application Server check box, and then click Details.
  4. In the Application Server dialog box, select the ASP.NET check box, and then click OK.
  5. In the Windows Components Wizard, click Next to begin installing ASP.NET.
  6. When the Windows Components Wizard has finished configuring Windows Server 2003, click Finish.

Case3: To Enable ASP.NET Extension in IIS (6.0)

   1. Click on Start
   2. Click on Run
   3. Type inetmgr and press Enter / Click OK. This will open Internet Information Services (IIS) MMC.

In IIS MMC:

   1. Expand your server i.e. PC_Name (local computer).
   2. Click Web Service Extensions.
   3. In the details pane, click ASP.NET v2.0.50727, and then click Allow.
