What is MACHPANEL ADSync (Active Directory Synchronization) utility?

MACHPANEL ADSync is a tool used to synchronize Users/Groups from a customer's local AD with Provider's Cloud/Hosted AD. It consolidates the selected attributes of one Active Directory with another. MachPanel ADSync performs one-way synchronization and keeps your cloud user accounts updated. MachPanel ADSync makes its extremely easy for you to synchronize your AD users between multiple platforms and leverage Single-Sign-On benefits. You have option to choose your desired OU and Users as well as auto create users on hosted AD that get created in local AD.

What Type of objects are Synchronized between Client and Hosted AD?

"User Accounts" and "Groups" are synchronized between client and hosted AD.

Is it possible to choose the type of attributes that get synchronized between client and hosted AD?

Yes, it is possible to choose which attributes you want to sync between client AD and Hosted AD. This is done via ADSync Templates available in the control panel which you can pick per Organization. Either have one template for all organizations or create and pick a template per organization.

MachPanel ADSync synchronization process is one-way or two-way?

MACHPANEL ADSync is a one-way synchronization tool. It automates the synchronization of local Active Directory users and groups to provider's hosted Active Directory. Two way synchronization is not possible.

Which protocol is used by MACHPANEL ADSync utility?

LDAP protocol is used by MACHPANEL ADSync tool to manage and access the directory information service, and communicate with the host/cloud AD.

Which network ports are used by MACHPANEL ADSync tool?

HTTP OR HTTPS: 80 OR 443

On which server is the MACHPANEL ADSync utility installed?

MACHPANEL ADSync utility has to be installed on the client's local Active Directory Servers / Domain Controllers (Primary and Additional). On the hosted side, the control panel takes care of communication sent by ADSync Utility.

I have primary and additional DCs. Where should I deploy ADSync utility?

MACHPANEL ADSync utility comes with two installation modes, i.e. primary and secondary. If there are multiple DCs available then ADSync's primary installation is required on the primary DC, while all the additional DCs will have the secondary installation of ADSync tool.

Does it synchronize user passwords in Real-Time?

Any Password or information update is captured by ADSync Tool Instantly and passed on to the MachPanel Control Server in interval specified by the client. It is up to the customer to define how short or how long the information sync duration has to be. So, the information capture is real time, where as the sync to hosted side depends on the interval selected.

Will the existing passwords for all local AD users be synced over to hosted side?

For any user in the Local AD (new or old) its password will not sync to the cloud/hosted ad until it is mapped to a hosted user and then password is updated. Once mapping is done, the ADSync utility starts to take into account the changes made on the mapped user and then synchronizes that information during sync cycle. So, a one-time password change is mandatory after configuring mapping for user (s) so that the utility may capture the change and sync the updated password over to hosted AD.

How secure is ADSync? Does MACHPANEL AD Sync utility work using secure channel?

ADSync utility is extremely secure as there is no direct interaction between the client AD and Hosted AD. There is no need of any trust relationship between client and Hosted AD either. All activity happens between the MachPanel ADSync Utility deployed on the client AD and the MachPanel Control Panel (via MachPanel ADSync service API specific to ADSync). If the MachPanel Control Panel portal is SSL Protected, the MachPanel ADSync Service API will automatically be SSL Protected as well and hence all communication between ADSync Utility and MachPanel ADSync Service API is also totally SSL Protected and secure.

Is there option to Auto Map New Users created on Local AD?

Yes, there is a simple checkbox to enable option when adding your ADSync Profile to enable Auto Mapping for the users that get created under specified OU and this will auto Map the Users that exist on Hosted side with the newly created user on local AD. Auto Mapping is done based on user key characteristics such as UPN and Name etc.

Is there option to Auto Create Users on Hosted AD (users that are created in Local AD but do not already exist on Hosted AD)?

Yes, there is a simple checkbox to enable option when adding your ADSync Profile to enable Automatic Creation of users that get created under specified OU. This will automatically create the same user on hosted side on the configured customer organization. Also, Auto Create new option is dependent on ‘Auto Mapping’. In fact it is extension of Auto Mapping where system automatically creates new user on hosted side.

Is it possible to pick and choose only few users from a specific Organization to be synced?

Yes, MACHPANEL ADSync gives the option to select required users, groups and contacts under the required OUs for sync purpose. You get to see list of local users, and their matching hosted users, it is up to you to map users and enable sync for your desired users. You have to uncheck the option (Auto Mapping Enabled) in this case.

Can I select different Organization unit in the AD Sync utility?

Yes you can add multiple Organization units in the utility to synchronize their objects with the Hosted AD.

Is it possible to restrict ADSync operations for specific organization in case they fail to pay the service charges?

It is easily possible to enable/disable ADSync feature from control panel and the Synchronization operation will stop working. Once the matter is sorted, you just have to enable their sync again to bring everything back to working state.

How does a user link with an existing cloud user?

A user links with an existing cloud user making use of the userPrincipalName attribute.

How does a group link with an existing cloud group?

There is no mapping, by default all groups are synced (some can be excluded using filter expression). Groups are matched on hosted/target machine by 'name', 'samAccountName' and then by 'displayName'.

Which AD objects count towards the license limit?

The license limit applies on the sum of synchronized Users and Groups.

Are changes to a user in a local AD, synchronized across all hosted Domain Controllers?

Yes, the information is received by MachPanel control panel and then applied to the hosted AD. It does not matter if it’s a single domain controller or multiple domain controllers.

What is the service account used by MachPanel for ADSync? Is it only used for this specific purpose with the minimum privileges granted to the account only on the target customer OUs (Least-Privilege)?

The service account in ADSync (“Admin Login” / “Admin Password”) is used to read the values of attributes that need to be synced from local AD. The service account writes to the attribute you specify in ‘Sync Data Attribute’ field of Synced User/Group for tracking purpose on local AD. However to read the AD attributes, the service account needs to be made member of Domain Admins group in the Local AD.

1. Where can I find documentation about MachPanel API?

2. What does “Database error” mean?

Database Error is generic database error, usually occurs when MachPanel is unable to find records in database, it may occur because of invalid customer credentials. In future version of API we will update generic error messages and include specific error message as per the scenario.

3. Where can I find detailed information about returned errors?

In current version of the API, some of the error codes returned are specified through “ResponseCodes” and possible error codes are presented in the Documentation under “ResponseCodes” type. More detailed error codes with their definitions will be added in upcoming versions of the API.

4. First request to API takes around 20 seconds disregard of called method. After that all requests take around 5 seconds. Is it normal?

Yes it is normal; whenever a client application first time connects to the API it takes more time than subsequent requests.

5. I couldn’t find any API object related to billing, payment profiles and credit cards.

At this stage payment profiles and credit cards handling is not implemented, we will add payment processing using API in next version.

6. Can I use any technology other than .Net to implement the client application for MachPanel API?

Yes you can use any other technology also. For example if you are using PHP and JAVA to implement client application for MachPanel API then you can find some help on following links.

7. Can I modify the test API application?

API test application is not meant to be restricted as it is, it can be modified by the provider themselves and can be used to pick code snippet(s) to create other applications like a test application.

1) I am already using a third party billing and am happy with that?
We have a very comprehensive billing module that offers you all the required functionality on billing. You can automate all your processes, everything including billing is being managed from our control panel but if you want, you can switch off billing and carry on using billing outside of the control panel.

You can bill in any currency.
Anti-fraud filters
Multiple payment gateway support.
Tax & VAT support
Automatic invoice for new and recurring account etc

2) Can you integrate any third party billing or help desk for me?
Our system comes with a very comprehensive billing and help desk module which is built in part of our solution thus you do not incur any costs using them. Unfortunately right now we do not have any plans for third party billing or help desk integration but we can look into this for future.

3) Which payment gateway do you support?
We do support Authorize.net, PayPal, Moneris, World pay etc but if you are using any other payment gateway that is not supported, we can integrate that for you. Kindly contact our sales team for further details.

1 1) What support options are available?

Our basic/standard support includes comprehensive Knowledge Base, Support Blog, Documentation and Tutorials that provide resolution to common mistakes or errors. Apart from that we have different support packs available that includes both Email and Phone support packages covering business and non-business hours.

MachPanel product support covers delivery of Hot Fixes and Patches. It also includes all kinds of installation/configuration issues within the product. We will not be responsible for any installations/configurations beyond our product support, for this we have Premium Support option available.

In Premium Support/Paid Support, you can come to us with problems related to all the back end services like Exchange, BlackBerry, SharePoint, CRM, SFB (Lync), Hyper-V etc. We charge a minimal amount of one support incident per Premium/Enterprise Support case. Please note that the email describing your issue does not mean one incident but may contain more than one incidents.

2) Is e-mail based technical support free?
No, email support is not free. We have different support packages that cover both email and phone support covering business and non-business hours with package based SLA.

3) Is phone based support free?
No, phone support is not free. Phone support is available depending on your subscribed support package.

4) Can I ask technical support to troubleshoot problems not related with MachPanel? For example, troubleshoot my Exchange server?

Troubleshooting of problems beyond the product support scope can be availed under paid support / premium support.

9) How do I report bugs?
You can report bugs via the support team who identify the problem as a bug and determine severity level. Then bug is reported / added to internal bug management system for speedy fix of the issue.

10) Where do I post my suggestions and features request?
You can post your suggestions and feature requests via the support team who collect the details of the requirement and enter it into the internal tracking system. Business impact, relevance and benefits are determined of the requested feature and then forwarded to concerned team for implementation.

11) Where is your support based?

We are fairly spread out, with an office in Yorba Linda California, Amsterdam The Netherlands and Asia, thus covering up different time zone is not an issue. We beat our competitors based on our quality support that comes with an amazing response time.

12) Do I get any help during installation on setup process?
We recommend that you get all deployment done via our team by filling out the connectivity form that is sent upon first contact from our support side. A 90 minutes to 2 hours basic training is also included to help you get started. Yes, MachPanel supports sharing of active directory user accounts across multiple services. This means, Microsoft SharePoint, Microsoft Exchange and other services can be activated on single active directory user accounts. Additionally, MachPanel ADSync allows you to synchronize your local and hosted Active Directory users too.

Question 12: Can I offer both Traditional and SaaS Hosting?

Yes, you can offer both traditional and SaaS hosting from the same control panel and on top of that you can manage your customers, billing and helpdesk too.

Question 13: Does your solution support reseller?

Yes, MachPanel supports subscription based resellers and commission based reseller. Resellers can even use their own logo and company names to brand the control panel in addition to have the ability to create their own service plan and sell it via online store.

Question 14: Do you have OpenVS and XEN System supported?

No, our system does not support OpenVs and Xen currently, however our rapid development team can customize these on-demand.

Question 15: Do you have Virtuozzo supported?

No, our system does not support Virtuozzo currently, however MachPanel supports Microsoft Hyper-V for hosted VPS provisioning and management.

Question 16: Do you support Linux Hosting?

No, but we are looking into this and might be available in future.

Question 17: Can I get customization with your product?

Yes, our rapid development team is always ready to customize and integrated suitable 3^rd party tools within our product on-demand.

POC duration time is 14 days and will start from product installation date. MachPanel client activation limit is 25 licenses and will be automatically adjusted after final purchase. All work is performed by MachSol experienced and trusted in-house certified engineers. In addition to MachPanel Standard Support (included) we offer Consultancy and Professional Services for Microsoft applications (not included).

Within 14 days of POC there is a ‘GO-NO GO’ decision. If licensee decides to ‘GO forward’, the paid amount will be credited towards the final purchase price.

If a ‘NO-GO forward’, MachPanel POC license will be deactivated. No credit or refund will be issued. Licensee will be required to fully uninstall the POC product within 24 hours after deactivation.

5) How quickly can I go live?
Control Panel installation only takes a couple of hours and then it all depends on how quickly you want to import your current users. 6) Do I need to pay one-time fee for Active Directory License?
No you don’t have to pay a one-time fee for Active directory. All MachPanel Built-in Modules comes with purchase of any of the other Enterprise Module i-e MachPanel Automation Module for Microsoft Exchange, MachPanel Automation Module for Microsoft SharePoint, MachPanel Automation Module for Microsoft Skype for Business etc. In fact MachSol offers unlimited Active Directory licenses which means you can manage multiple hosted/dedicated environments from the same control panel without any additional costs.
